“Do unto others as you would have them do to you” – Luke 6:31
That sentence which is known as the Golden Rule which underlines many of the world’s religions and faith systems. It would go a long way in changing the world and bring about peace among all people if it was applied in all areas of life in our interactions with our fellow human beings.
When we look at a lot of the strife in our world, if we get to the root of what causes a lot of the strife, it comes down in many cases to some set of people treating others as they would never want to be treated. In some cases, the story could be of some trying to force their world views on a few who don’t believe in such views while in other cases it could be envy and jealousy which leads of theft. Sadly, people who are victims of such tend to reciprocate such towards others.
As we enter a new year, our goal should be more understanding, toleration, and peace among all people. Some might say that such is a very tall and ambitious goal which is out of their control. True, that it might be a big goal but in our own little ways we can begin such in our areas of life. In our interactions with people, we should strive to treat others as we would want them to treat us. Hopefully, people would reciprocate such gestures to people who in turn would do such.
